Jaskevich is a carver of dreams in stone. Her mythical figures borrow elements from ancient cultures. Jane creates figures by combining various materials such as different stones, wood and found objects. She pays homage to the stones’ Greco-Roman roots.
Her recent work is called the Cypress Series combines Cypress wood and various stone elements to create standing figures. The wood chosen suggests drapery and then elements are carved to further enhance the female form. The stones chosen for the head and torso create either contrast or harmony. Movement is very important. The sculpture is about gesture and expression.
