Toryn Black is an emerging wood artist making mid-century modern inspired furniture and small objects for the home. Drawn to organic shapes, occult symbolism, and the fluid curves of Art Nouveau, she merges these mystical elements with the clean restraint of mid-century modern design. Working primarily in Appalachian hardwoods, she uses traditional techniques including all-wood joinery, bent lamination, carving, and inlay to achieve the curves, arches, and distinctive design elements at the heart of her work.
