Cole Klutch by Ashley Bangert #14

Fiber, Mixed Media

Using quilting techniques, Ashley creates one-of-a-kind bags by piecing cork fabric. Her studio runs on essentially zero waste. Each bag is lined with canvas remnants that were once intended to make awnings. She then incorporates vinyl fabric remnants, that are also sourced from the local awning company. The vinyl is used to make straps and added to the bottom of her bags for stiffness and structure, allowing the bag to stand up on its own. Any cork scraps leftover is put to use to make coasters. Cork is a fantastic alternative to leather and ethically harvested in the forests of Portugal.
